Faith Academy baseball dominates all-district honors
After going unbeaten during the district season and capturing the program’s first district title, coaches honored the Faith Academy of Marble Falls baseball players by naming two as the district co-most valuable players and other starters to the first and second teams.
Flames head coach Zakk Revelle noted it was unusual for one team to produce district co-MVPs but understood why it happened.
He noted that coaches are presented lists of players complete with statistics. But because pitchers Justin Mottle (2-0), a senior, and Kade Shaw (4-0), a sophomore, each had similar seasons, coaches decided the right move was to honor both. Mottle played different positions other than pitcher when the Flames needed him.
“They both had great batting averages, too,” Revelle said. “Shaw batted second and Mottle was third. Shaw had one or two more hits, but Mottle was walked twice as many times. And the teams had their issues with both.”
Joining the pitchers on first team all-district are freshman catcher Carter Fromberg and senior shortstop Dylan Offutt.
“Carter was the best catcher in the district. He hit behind Mottle and benefited from that. He had a high batting average,” Revelle said. “Dylan has a high IQ. He was a very good defender. He probably thinks he could have hit better.”
Second team honors went to Case Coleman, Dylan Pipken, Seth Jones, Cross Sanchez and Kolton Steele.
“Coaches gave us a lot of spots on the first team,” Revelle said. “We could have filled the first-team spots with our guys. These guys were more than deserving of first team. And other teams also had guys who were deserving.”
Ian Smiles was all-district honorable mention as a reserve. The coach said Smiles was happy to be on the list.
“He played and got better every game,” he said. “He did a great job of stepping in and playing his role. He did an incredible job. He was very patient and disciplined at the plate.”
